Michael Cuddyer believes Rockies can make run at postseason in 2014
Repeating last year's personal success will be a challenge. Cuddyer owned a .382 average when putting pitches in play. However, his approach should provide roots for long term success, he said.
Comfortable in his second season in Colorado, Cuddyer delivered a career best performance. He batted .331, tops in the National League, posted bests in on base percentage and on base plus slugging and had a 27 game hitting streak. Perhaps more salient, he personified Weiss' philosophy of "Play tough. Play smart." The next time Cuddyer doesn't hustle will be the first.
injuries happened and it kind of went downhill from there," Cuddyer said. "But the foundation was laid. We weren't just playing as a team, but we were playing to win and believing we can win. Whether the outside world sees that doesn't concern us. If healthy, we have the depth and talent to sustain it for six months."
Cuddyer, who turns 35 in March, watched with satisfaction as the Rockies addressed their offseason needs. He played a small role, helping recruit former Minnesota Twins teammate Justin Morneau, who will take over at first base for Todd Helton. Cuddyer was more focused on the team than his own contract status.

Cuddyer said. "We are going to compete. You can't promise results, but you can promise to put in the work. We will be better. This is what I signed up for."
If the Rockies are to rebound, Cuddyer will be counted on heavily to be a guiding force.
Michael Cuddyer showed up last spring with a motivational shirt. In a week, he will arrive in Scottsdale, Ariz., with a title belt and a belief. The National League's reigning batting champion enters the final year of his contract and isn't planning on the Rockies watching the postseason with noses pushed up against frosted windows.
"I had a good conversation with (Cuddyer) before I signed. He told me great things about the team's desire to win again," Morneau said. "When you respect someone like that, you want to play with him. I missed having him on my team.".
"It was more mental than anything else. For the first time Balenciaga Black City Bag Sale in my career, I wasn't worrying about my past and future at bats. I stayed focused on the moment," Cuddyer said. "It allowed me not to waste any at bats. I think it will carry over into this year."
The all star equated last year's progress to a construction project, saying the team is much closer to assembling the right pieces in manager Walt Weiss' second season.
"I am an open book. If they want to talk, that's great. It won't be a distraction, I promise you that. They had a lot of other work to do, and I am really excited about the guys we added," Bottega Veneta Parachute Intrecciato Tote Bag Black
"This guy is as good as it gets. A true pro. I don't know if you could dream up a better year than Cuddyer had," Weiss said. "On top of it, he's a tremendous leader. He's huge for our club."
Morneau leaned heavily on Cuddyer when making his decision to sign with Colorado. The former American League MVP figures to hit in the middle of the lineup, possibly fifth against right Balenciaga Giant 12 Mini City Red
