The only real reason the two don't merge is because some in the 'Burgh refuse to believe it merged with Troy back in 1900. If some in the 'Burgh had their druthers there would be a big moat at 101st Street.
There are two things to look at when talking about Colonie and Troy. One, Colonie has two districts within its borders but it also has close to 80,000 people over 60 square Bottega Veneta Crossbody Bag Review
The 'Burgh isn't struggling nearly as bad as the Troy district, which faces an $8.5 million deficit, but everything is intertwined. A merger would do nothing but save Trojans across the city money which is good for the city and as the city goes, so goes the school district and vice a versa.
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, after Gov. Andrew Cuomo talked about consolidation during his State of the State address, if the Enlarged City School District of Troy and the Lansingburgh School District want to save money merge.
Logically, when people move out of state there are fewer kids going to school. According to this paper, enrollment in the Troy district dropped 21 percent from 2002 to the end of 2009. Following that same logic, when there are fewer kids you need less space.

miles. As an aside, the City of Albany only has one district for more than 90,000 people but it covers less than 22 square miles. My guess is acreage is relevant. And Colonie, one of the more better off districts, is also likely to close a school.
One, there is less people. According to the Empire Center, New York lost 1.5 percent of its population from 2000 to 2008 and we are expected to lose two more Congressional seats when the latest Census numbers are formalized.
Also, during his State of the State, he said he would offer incentives as a way to bribe school districts, and other overlapping taxing entities like fire departments and water districts, into merging. It can be a hefty amount too. In 2008, when Maplewood merged its one school with the North Colonie School District the district got some $30 million over 14 years. Imagine what it could be worth if two sizable institutions like the Troy and Lansingburgh districts joined forces. The Colonie board decides tonight whether or not to close the Maplewood school but it still gets the money.
cut or if not cut then not raise it as much as in years past state aid by $1.5 billion.
or Balenciaga First Bag Size two in order to deal with mounting financial problems, but there is no need to have two school districts in a city that's about 11 square miles and has a good shot of seeing its population drop below the 45,000 mark when the new Census numbers come out next month.
Troy's budget is about $94.5 million while the 'Burgh's is $38.7 million. Of that, as near as I can tell, Troy spends some $6 million on administrative functions. The 'Burgh spends just more than $3 million. You can't abolish one or the other but two could become one.
That's the expenditure side of things, but it would help on the revenue side of the ledger too, which isn't looking all that great. For starters cities continue to see their tax bases erode and Cuomo said he wants to Balenciaga Mens Bag
Districts across the state are forced to scale back and while "the taxes are too high" rallying cry is certainly legitimate because they are when compared to the other states in the nation, there is more too it.
It might not prevent Troy from having to close a school Guess Backpack 2017
And it doesn't account for the potential savings accomplished by having one insurance plan, one special education program, one after school program, one transportation department one athletic program and one athletic facility and to a lesser extent one Board of Education. I honestly don't know the inner workings of a school district so I don't know how many more "twos" could become "one" but I'd be willing to bet there are at least a few more.
And then there is the emergence of charter schools that continue to pull kids and funds from public schools. You don't hear of too many charter schools in Colonie or East Greenbush, but they are in Troy, Schenectady and Albany.
There are other reasons schools are struggling especially city schools. People who don't leave the state all together still head to the suburbs to raise a family. The mass exodus to suburbia of a decade or two ago may have slowed but the phenomenon still is very real.
