Aleutians and in Italy during WWII. It was in Italy that this mountain division was severely tested, with great losses and casualties. The Greater Middletown Chorale commissioned the writing of the work in 2010, and Artistic Director D'Eugenio was part of the musical collaboration that created this new American musical work, or oratorio. D'Eugenio will conduct the soloists, chorus and orchestra in the premiere performance of the work on Sunday, April 28, at Middletown High School.
Joyce Kirkpatrick, a member of the chorale, said she thought the news was "so fantastic."
The chorale, with a current membership of about 65 singers from 35 different towns, performs at least once each year accompanied by a full orchestra of professional musicians.
"We've been working several years on this project," he said. "It's good to see the city support us. Balenciaga Navy Blue The city has been helpful in general getting it on stage."
The production is costly, Kirkpatrick said.
Drew told members of the chorale that Middletown has a "robust veterans community that appreciates the project you're working on."
According to the chorale's website, the organization is "an auditioned symphonic chorus committed to excellence in singing while preparing and performing choral masterworks and other choral music for all generations of listeners."
"This project is bigger than the chorale," she said. "Given the stewardship, we're doing the best job we can. We get fantastic support from everyone."

Tuesday night, the ensemble sang "Lullaby Manor," a selection from the musical, for the mayor and other guests who came to hear the Mayor's Ball announcement.
PORTLAND >> This year's beneficiary of the annual Middletown Mayor's Ball will be the Greater Middletown Chorale. The money will help produce the chorale's original production "Letter from Italy 1944," Mayor Daniel Drew announced at the Zion Lutheran Church on Tuesday, where the chorale was rehearsing.
"I think it's great the city selected this original work," said Phil Cacciola, commander of American Legion Post 75 in Middletown. "We're doing our best to get as many veterans to the event. The veterans organizations are behind this 100 percent."
Matthew McCaffrey, president of the chorale, said he thought the mayor's announcement was "terrific."
Middletown Mayor's Ball to benefit Greater Middletown Chorale this year
Although the chorale is based in Middletown, many of its members are from outside Middlesex County.
Dr. Meneely was Kyder and Nancy Meneely's father, and the musical is based on their father's story and his letters.
Middletown Town Clerk Sandra Russo Driska, who has organized the Mayor's Ball for the eight years of its existence, said the band Prelude will provide music for the ball, which will be held at the Middletown Elks Lodge. Tickets are $100 per person and include a meal with an appetizer, open bar and live music. Tickets are limited to 300, and the event is black tie optional.
The production will be semi staged at Middletown High School and will take advantage of the new school's state of the art technical capabilities.
Drew called the chorale's "Letters from Italy 1944" production a "very important project," which documents the life of Dr. Meneely, who suffers from post traumatic stress disorder after serving in World War II.
Lighting effects and projections of the 10th Mountain Division's famous ski troops will accompany the production and are under the direction of Sheila Garvey, chairman of Southern Connecticut State University's Theater Department, according to a press release on the production.
The annual Mayor's Ball will take place June 1, Drew said.
