But Middletown did do a lot of other bad things. Like commit penalties. The Blue Dragons had a staggering 13 penalties for 125 yards. They also had a snap go over their punter's head that led to a touchdown, failed to cover an onside kick that also led to a touchdown, fumbled the ball away once and threw an interception. In the process they blew a 13 point lead that easily could have been a three touchdown lead and lost to Hall, 36 26.
The penalties included four holding calls, two personal fouls, one pass interference and six count 'em, six of the illegal procedure/encroachment kind. Tough to beat anyone doing that.
Middletown scored on Jha'kur West's (13 carries, 111 yards) one yard run with 2:22 left, but Middletown's chances of maybe getting a tie and forcing overtime, ended when the conversion run failed. MHS got the ball back on a fumble at the 49 yard line, but a personal foul against MHS after the fumble shoved the ball back to the Dragons' 34. Five plays later Dugger intercepted Carrillo with 48 seconds left.
Hall pushed Middletown all over the field in the second half, scoring a stunning 30 second half points. The Warriors ran a ridiculous 95 plays to Middletown's 52, and after being outgained 162 120 yards in the first half, Hall blew past MHS for 293 yards in the second to Middletown's 99. Hall, which came in with the reputation as a passing team, ran for 257 yards out of its total of 413.
"I give Hall credit; they played very well," said Morello. "Even with all the Balenciaga Navy Blue Bag poor things we did, there were a couple of big plays that really made a difference."
One came late in the second quarter with MHS leading 13 0. A lead built on a TD on a blocked punt that was recovered for a touchdown by O'brian Sinclair and a 57 yard TD run by Jha'kur West. Middletown had just recovered a fumble and on first down, quarterback Devon Carrillo (15 carries, 90 yards) ran for nine yards. Morello took Carrillo who spent much of the day limping around the field out for one play and inserted freshman quarterback Dario Highsmith in for just that one play.
"I am disappointed with lots of things, but mostly with our lack of urgency," said Morello. "We didn't get off the bus with any sense of urgency. And we didn't play with enthusiasm. The only time we were enthusiastic was when we did something good. We're not good enough to be able to do that. We're young that's no excuse and our margin of error is small. We have to play 48 minutes of football. We didn't do that."
But Highsmith didn't follow a block, changed direction and went backwards for a loss of 15 yards and second and one became third and 16. Carrillo got off a bad punt of 19 yards and Hall, which had done nothing on offense for the first quarter and two thirds, zipped 61 yards in 11 plays to score with 2:23 left in the half on a 16 yard run by Ian Dugger (12 carries, 97 yards).
"We played as bad as we can play," said Morello. "And 16 [actually 13] penalties. That trend began three games ago [against Maloney] and is continuing. We have to fix that."
Hall tried to help out the Dragons by turning the ball over, too. The Warriors had three fumbles and an interception and it was a fumble that gave MHS its next touchdown. Sophomore lineman Sam Rivera picked up a George Lund fumble and ran 76 yards for a Middletown (4 1) touchdown. With Sinclair's kick, Middletown led 20 12 with 6:09 to go in the third.
"Just like last year, Hall kicked our butt again, they beat us in every phase of the game. We just got beat, period. They pushed us around in the second half. We're going to have to regroup and we've got Windsor next week. Authentic Balenciaga Wallet
Leading 13 6, Darius Swain immediately fumbled the ball away and while Hall didn't score, it forced the overworked MHS defense to play eight more downs and the half ended with Hall having run 40 plays to Middletown's 25.
"You can do all kinds of things in football, spread offense, this and that, but in the end it comes down to blocking and tackling," he said. "And today we did neither."
On fourth down, the snap from center sailed over Carrillo's head and he retrieved it at his 10 yard line and while he managed to get out to the 32 yard line, he was well short of the first down. On the next play, Dugger ran 32 yards up the middle for the touchdown that put Hall ahead to stay, 28 20.
But the defense was unable to stop Hall.
The Warriors (4 1) marched 86 yards in 15 plays converting a fourth and six along the way and Bottega Veneta Roma Bag Large
Time to find out what kind of football team we have."
"We were lucky enough to get momentum in the second half," said Hall coach Frank Robinson. "I thought we lost momentum at the end of the half when we didn't score, and that onside kick helped to get it back. We noticed Middletown plays only four up front whereas most teams play five. We got lucky, it hit a kid's leg that kept it in bounds. But I'll tell you, Middletown is really scary; they are so fast. But my kids fought."
Hall scored on its next possession, taking advantage of another poor punt, this one just 18 yards to the Hall 43 yard line. It took the Warriors seven plays to score with Dugger going in from the six yard line with 3:58 to play. Maltz added the conversion run and Hall was cruising up 16.
Another enormous play opened the second half. Hall kicked onside and recovered. The Warriors marched 53 yards in seven plays and scored on a pass from Zach Dobbins to Dugger from 16 yards out and with 9:21 left, Middletown's lead was 13 12. On that drive came another key play. Middletown's Isiah Swain had a potential interception hit him in the numbers and he dropped it.
Middletown's next drive which began with yet another procedure penalty picked up a first down on a 15 yard run by Carrillo, but again with Balenciaga Sunday Tote
Middletown suffers first loss of season to Hall of West Hartford
Moreover, those 99 yards MHS gained are meaningless as the Dragons picked up 90 of those yards in the last four minutes of the game after Hall had the game salted away 36 20. That means that for the entire third quarter and the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, Middletown had exactly nine yards total offense. Hall threw the ball 40 times and completed 14 for 156 yards. The MHS secondary played well, but the Dragons didn't put much pressure on the quarterback, recording just three sacks.
tied the game 20 20 on Jesse Maltz' one yard plunge and a two point conversion run by Dugger with 1:49 left in the third.
"Dario's a freshman and we know he's going to have many more good plays than bad ones," said Morello. "It's a learning experience."
Carrillo out for a play, Highsmith was thrown for a nine year loss which set up disaster for the Dragons.
